Glowing Skin For Dummies

Scrolling through the gram, it seems like everyone and their mother knows a secret about glowing skin that I don’t.

Poreless faces that seemed to be smoothed with sandpaper, a skin tone so even it looks like literal paint, and freckles so perfectly rounded it’s not possible that the sun actually caused them. While most of these posts are layered with filters, it does make me curious what all these influencers and celebrities are doing to make their skin look like an actual baby’s bottom.

A quick google and a closer look at their tags tell me all I need to know about their routines. Microneedling, lasers, facial massages, the whole shebang. Some even make a mask out of their own blood for the sake of skincare! I’m sorry, but I just can’t fck with that. (But no judgment to you if you do.)

So what if, and hear me out, you DIDN’T want to do all of those things to have a glowy, smooth, complexion? Is it even possible? Can you even live? The short answer is yes. And here are five easy ways to glow the fck up.

Sweat

But actually though. Anyone who has lived a summer in LA will tell you that sweat is the best highlighter. Even if you are just going to the grocery store or running errands, that lil sweat droplet across your forehead or on your cheeks is the perfect way to glow without even trying. If that’s not enough for you, try some cardio before your next trip to the smoothie shop. The hot guy behind the counter (and your complexion), will thank you.

Sex

There is nothing like the post-sex glow. The flushed cheeks, a dribble of sweat, the gulp of air that feels almost intoxicating. An orgasm is a perfect way to add a pop of color to your face without any product. And don’t forget, sex doesn’t need to include a partner ;)

Vasoline

Petroleum jelly is the OG all-in-one hydrator and glow inducer. While it’s not the most glamorous of products, it’s perfect for locking in moisture and creating a barrier on the skin from outside factors. Much like a bandaid, petroleum jelly helps the skin to heal, all while giving a glistening glow. But be careful, too much of it and you can trap unwanted bacteria on the skin, causing an adverse effect.

Vitamin C

Remember when you were a kid and you took a trip to Florida with your family and everyone back at school was jealous of your post-vacation glow? Vitamin C kinda does the same thing. This is because Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that stimulates collagen in your body, thus brightening your complexion and fighting hyperpigmentation. It also is great at fighting fine lines and wrinkles, all while giving off a gorgeous glow. But before you go dropping all your money on just any ole serum, make sure to check the dosage. Anything below 10% won’t be as effective and is probably just a marketing ingredient.

Highlighter

Last but certainly not least, a highlighter is the easiest way to create glowing skin. While any supermarket highlighter will do the job, look for something with duo chromatic pearls, with a pink, gold flash, our founder Wende recommends. This creates a more authentic glow that is more tonal, and not shimmery. You aren’t trying to be a Halloween Unicorn, so don’t highlight like one.
