like so many people in california – wende & jenna moved here from somewhere else. this place has a way of capturing the imagination. and no .... it’s not just the weather. all it’s wild .... natural beauty lends to a bewitching sense of possibility. of innovation. of freedom. to us – the golden state represents so much more than just a place on the map. it’s a portal to another world .... where self-expression. unity. & sustainability are all the rage.

started a makeup company called urban decay. it broke the beauty industry....
no one had our “makeup as empowerment” attitude and slate of killer. never-before-seen color. we democratized beauty before anyone else. and paved the way for every beauty entrepreneur. i loved what we built with urban decay. i still love it.
but …. i actually have more to say. and am less afraid to say it at 50 than i was at 27. when i chased the california dream and couldn’t find it until i landed in laguna beach and fell in love. it was a beautiful place that made me feel beautiful. and empowered. i made out under the lifeguard tower with a surfer who would one day become my husband. i loved that feeling. i love how he smelled …. like neoprene and wax.
i love our clean. laid-back. wellness-centric. californian lifestyle.
it’s a culture of transformation with a sunny outlook and lots of attitude.
i first found it out in the water on a surfboard with my surfer-girl neighbors as they shoved me into my first waves. when i met jenna on the beach playing volleyball. there it was again. except that she’s funnier and more free. sharper and smarter. and more unafraid than almost anyone i’ve ever met.
what do i want now? …. i want to keep encouraging women to have a confident voice – big. loud. unfiltered. loving. crude. comical and true. i want to recapture the feeling when i walked out of the summer-warm water with my surfboard and overheard. “wow…she’s the whole package.” yeah. i was. and i still am. the whole package. because when the light hits someone just right. everyone else can see it too. i want to bottle that. i want to help the environment & the economy. i want to look good but not spend forever working on that instead of living. i want to protect my skin. and never miss out on a good time outside.
